Lego Jurassic Park: The Unofficial Retelling

Did LEGO Ruin This Timeless Classic in This Unofficial Retelling?

Jurassic Park, a timeless classic and benchmark of a fulfilled childhood came out 30 years ago now. ( I know, like you needed another reason to feel old, right?)  One might say the only way to tarnish the love of this classic would be to do something crazy like try and remake it. Or would it?

That being said, LEGO has gone and done something insane. Peacock’s newly announced retelling of this 90’s childhood staple looks like they may have hit the mark. All your favorite scenes have been revisited with the added bonus of LEGO’s well known blocky comedic style.

Timeless scenes to stir your nostalgia are all here, like when the crew first sets eyes on the megalithic Brachiosaurus going bipedal to much the tops of trees, the iconic gates opening when they first enter the park, and the kids hiding out from raptors in the park’s kitchen. But some scenes seem to have an added lighthearted spin. The scene when the JP jeep is getting chased down by the main antagonist Mr. T-rex (Or I guess it would be Mrs.) Dr. Ian Malcom avoids being eaten with the help of a well placed lego brick. It seems even a colossal prehistoric beast has a weakness to stepping on them. In an earlier, well-known scene, the Lawyer isn’t so lucky. He still gets eaten off the toilet, but not before building his poop tomb brick by brick.

A detail we cant ignore is the genius choice to have the fan favorite Dr. Ian Malcom narrating this unofficial retelling of what happened on Isla Nublar:

From the comfort of his living room and after finding his personal journal, the ever charming and now slightly older Chaos Theory Mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm retells the tale of what happened that dreadful night at Jurassic Park. As only he can do, Dr. Malcolm finds a way to add his own unique humor and style to bring this harrowing story back to life. A theme park destination filled with living dinosaurs for family and kids to enjoy – what could possibly go wrong? Absolutely everything…just as he had predicted!”

If only we all aged as well as Jeff Goldblum.

Lego Jurassic Park: The Unofficial Retelling releases on Peacock on October 10th just in time for the spooky season.

The only downside we can see is it might leave us wanting more. With a runtime of just 22 minutes we’re left wondering if they couldn’t have done more with the source material. But we think even Steven Speilberg would be proud of this remake of one of his most popular films.
